Hackers prove costly for Dixons Carphone

Shares in Dixons Carphone (LON:DC.) dipped by 2.91% to 192p, as at 1340 BST, after the electronics retailer revealed that almost 6 million customers’ card details were accessed by hackers. While the majority of the data was protected by chip & pin, there were around 105,000 non-EU issued cards that were fully compromised.

The company has reported this to relevant authorities and financial institutions despite no evidence of fraudulent activity taking place. Management said that extra security measures have since been installed and that the method used to achieve access is no longer functional.
