He lives in California about twenty miles from San Francisco and works for Albourne which is an advisory service in the matter of management of really large portfolios. He is cheerfully indifferent to the staggering level of governmental debt around the world. It must be a youth thing.

Trinity Mirror (TNI) this morning report on the half year to 30th June 2015. It is equivocal in tone but the dividend emerges at 2p. There is no reference to legal expenses arising from damages claimed by victims of phone-hacking. These claims are however still very much there.

A sage in yesterday’s Racing Post pointed out that he had heard it claimed on Radio 4’s Today programme that Peter O’Sullevan who died last week aged 97 was drinking copious quantities of red wine at the age of 95. He told his father, still jogging along at 95. He was uncertain whether this was dietary advice or a warning.
