The Evil Diaries: “I get the money quicker”

Thank God Leadsom dropped out as quickly as she did. I get the money quicker.

Last night I saw a television programme which considered what happened when Brown allowed pension pot savers to turn their bog standard funds into SIPPs which allowed the prospective pensioner to invest in any old junk. The junk in question here was a property development at Cape Verde promoted by a Rob Jarrett and his The Resort Group.

Now, I don’t mind if idiots send their money off to the likes of Jarrett – it’s a free country. But the idiots feel hard done by since they think that the FCA protects them whereas the truth is that the FCA protects nobody but the FCA. Once the state gets involved in “protecting” citizens the result is that more and more citizens step up to the plate to be protected. In the end the bill presented to society is intolerable. All this is quite obvious and the fact that it can arise is proof of just how useless centre-left politicians are. Their preening self-regard is most offensive.

Finally yesterday, I heard The Baroness (Onora) O’Neill discussing and considering the quality of public debate which arose during the Referendum campaign. Her presentation is so good that I recommend that readers go to BBC Radio 4’s 9.45 a.m. slot and listen again. And to think we could just conceivably have had a non-entity like Leadsom in the top job.
