“Remember you’re a Womble”
There is something profoundly infantile about the civic leaders (so claimed) of Liverpool. I think we have a national duty to take the p*** out of Liverpool. Otherwise they’ll never grow up.
I knew it was a blunder on the part of Michael Howard to send Boris Johnson up to Liverpool to apologise for Boris’s having, it is alleged, slurred that city. What a bunch of sillies.

I got an email from a youngish chap I know who has managed to settle in ready target range of North Korea. He is very cool about it all, pointing out that it is not North Korea that is doing the threatening. Hmmm. Nonetheless, not for me.

Last week’s Panorama programme reviewed the authorities’ conduct during the LIBOR trial. It is becoming clearer week by week that Tom Hayes has been most unjustly treated. It is time for Mrs Truss to intervene and set matters right.

Master Investor’s Swen Lorenz suggested to the Sunday Times to interview me for its Fame and Fortune series. The article struck me as courteous enough. Indeed, a relation told me that it made him proud to be a Cawkwell. But I pointed out that that attitude is broadly similar to the immortal line which goes “Remember you’re a Womble”.

Finally, I bought USD/JPY at 108.7. It’s been as low as 108.18 and as high as 109.20 since. Possibly, it is time to step in again.
