ASX-listed Zenith Minerals (ASX:ZNC) has identified two strong conductive zones using ground-based magnetotelluric (MT) geophysical surveys at its Zacatecas lithium brine project in Mexico. The results are interpreted to support the presence of significant thicknesses of basin-fill sediments.
Lithium brines to 2.1% lithium have been reported from small-scale salt production solar evaporation ponds on an adjacent salt lake 10 kilometres west of Zacatecas. The Zacatecas brine targets are considered by Zenith to be most similar to those hosted in the immature salt lake systems such as Clayton Valley, which hosts the USA’s only lithium brine operation.
