The Melbourne Cup is run in Australia at 4.00 a.m. London time tomorrow. Last year I won £220,000 and inevitably I am drawn to have yet another bash in this terrific race, “the race that stops a nation”. I offer Pondus and Persan both at 25/1 and best backed each way.

Brighton Pier (PIER) reported this morning and is going gangbusters. No dividend is proposed and I reckon this is entirely reasonable in the light of the ravages of Covid. The shares are currently 77p offer and are well worth buying by the patient.

Finally, silver again looks cheap below $24. But it must be said that the crackers brigade seem insistent upon putting funk money into crypto rather than the real thing.
