Evil Knievil: Epsom Derby betting
The Epsom Derby betting (tomorrow at 4.55) is completely cock-eyed.
Kameko is far too short at 5/1 (just lay the place). But the favourite, English King, is a stonking  bet at 7/2 as is also Russian Emperor at 6/1. Interestingly, Ryan Moore, Ballydoyle’s lead jockey has gone for Mogul. But I think he has got it wrong and the “junior” stable jockey Seamie Heffernan, on Russian Emperor, has got it right even if only by default.
Fascinatingly, Willie Muir is surely presumed to be reaching out for the big time with Pyledriver, which is now 20/1. Most would guess that he/his owner is fantasising but my adviser thinks he is really an 11/2 chance.

Highland Chief is the value in the Derby. Stonking chance to be in first four.

Most open Derby in years, none of the fancied horses passed muster as a reliable favourite or even close. So I looked for a ‘dark horse’ outsider and backed each-way Amhran Na Bhfiann (don’t ask me to pronounce that!), came third returning place odds of 16/1.
